Veteran Sportsperson of the Year

Congratulations to Liz Godfree on being awarded 'The Veteran Sportsperson of the Year' at the Derbyshire Annual Sports Awards on Friday 14th November at Pride Park. This follows on from her award at the Derbyshire Dales awards. The award is in recognition for Liz's achievements this year which include a gold medal at the World Masters Sprint Championships.

Yvette Baker Win

The East Midlands round of the Yvette Baker inter club competition for juniors was held today at the LEI event at Bagworth. DVO juniors secured a fine win over the other clubs. This included local rivals NOC who DVO beat for the first time in this competition. They will now move forward to the final to be held at Sandringham on the 7th December.
Congratulations to all the DVO juniors who competed whatever position they finished in.

Spook Relays

DVO members are invited to enter the Spook Relays 2008 which are to be held on Stanton Moor on Saturday 29th November 2008.
The race comprises of a Men’s Relay with 6 legs * 2.2km (commonly run by 2 persons) Cost £10 (Students £8)
and a Women’s Relay with 4 legs * 2.2km (commonly run by 2 persons) Cost £7 (Students £5.50).
There will be a mass Start at 11am.

There is very limited car parking so please car share and bring your own map case.

Thanks to all members who turned up for this event. The weather was fine by the time we were running and sunny for the picnic afterwards.

Club nights in Buxton

This Saturday there was a very succesful Come and try it event in Buxton with over 130 runs.

Following on from this regular club nights will be held on Tuesdays for anyone wanting to take up the sport or improve their orienteering.

Peter Palmer Relays

Congratulations to the mainly DVO team who competed for the first time (for DVO) in the Peter Palmer Relay. This event is a slighty scaled down version of the Harvester relays being six legs of differing lengths with two designed to be run in the dark. It is hoped a fuller report and pictures may be available next week..

Gold medal for Great Britain. The mens relay team of Graham Gristwood, Jon Duncan and Jamie Stevenson have won the gold medal at the World Orienteering Championships.

Strong runs from all three claimed the best position ever for a mens team at the World Champs.
